Sergey Akopov is an artist born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1956 and graduated from the Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts in 1983. He has been a member of the International Association of Plastic Arts at UNESCO since 1998. In 2023, Sergey Akopov moves to France. His works can be found in private collections in Europe, the United States, Canada and China.
At the beginning of his career, Sergey Akopov’s artistic choices were influenced by expressionism, abstract painting and the moderate avant-garde. From the second half of the 90s, the artist turned to Flemish and Dutch painting, and discovered the world of still life. He creates his own style, marked by softness and sensitivity, where the play of chiaroscuro finds a predominant place. He develops a sharp and precise technique, a perfect mastery of textures and light.
With the arrival of the new millennium, Sergey Akopov felt the need to explore new pictorial forms, allowing him to express his attitude towards human and universal subjects. In his figurative painting, imbued with medieval inspirations, the artist plays with the multiplicity of references and fantasies and takes us into a universe open to metamorphoses. The characters in his paintings are driven by deep quests, halfway between reverie and abstraction.

Il est membre de l’Association Internationale des Arts plastiques auprès de l’UNESCO depuis 1998. En 2023, Sergey Akopov s’installe en France. Ses œuvres se trouvent dans des collections privées en Europe, aux États-Unis, au Canada et en Chine.
Au début de sa carrière, les choix artistiques de Sergey Akopov sont influencés par l’expressionnisme, la peinture abstraite et l’avant-garde modérée. À partir de la seconde moitié des années 90, l’artiste se tourne vers la peinture flamande et hollandaise, et découvre l’univers de la nature morte. Il crée son propre style, marqué par la douceur et par la sensibilité, où le jeu du clair-obscur trouve une place prédominante. Il développe une technique pointue et précise, une maîtrise parfaite des textures et de la lumière.
Avec l’arrivée du nouveau millénaire, Sergey Akopov a ressenti le besoin d’explorer de nouvelles formes picturales, lui permettant d’exprimer son attitude envers des sujets humains et universels. Dans sa peinture figurative, empreinte d’inspirations médiévales, l’artiste joue avec la multiplicité de repères et de fantasmes et nous emporte dans un univers ouvert aux métamorphoses. Les personnages de ses toiles sont animés par des quêtes profondes, à mi-chemin entre rêverie et abstraction.
