Sergey Akopov is an artist born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1956 and graduated from the Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts in 1983. He has been a member of the International Association of Plastic Arts at UNESCO since 1998. From 1983, Sergey Akopov lived and worked in Moscow, and in 2023, he moved to Saint-Étienne. His works can be found in private collections in Europe, the United States, Canada and China.
At the beginning of his career, the artist evolved in abstract painting with urban motifs, then gradually he moved towards the world of still life and created his own style, marked by softness and sensitivity, where the play of chiaroscuro finds a predominant place. He develops a sharp and precise technique, a perfect mastery of textures and light.
With the arrival of the new millennium, Sergey Akopov began a search for new pictorial forms, allowing him to interpret human and universal subjects. In his figurative painting, imbued with medieval inspirations, the artist plays with the multiplicity of references and fantasies and takes us into a universe open to metamorphoses. The characters in his paintings are driven by deep quests, halfway between reverie and abstraction.

Il est membre de l’Association Internationale des Arts plastiques auprès de l’UNESCO depuis 1998. À partir de 1983, Sergey Akopov vit et travaille à Moscou, et en 2023, il s’installe à Saint-Étienne. Ses œuvres se trouvent dans des collections privées en Europe, aux États-Unis, au Canada et en Chine.
Au début de sa carrière, l’artiste évolue dans la peinture abstraite aux motifs urbains, puis progressivement il s’oriente vers l’univers de la nature morte et crée son propre style, marqué par la douceur et la sensibilité, où le jeu du clair-obscur trouve une place prédominante. Il développe une technique pointue et précise, une maîtrise parfaite des textures et de la lumière.
Avec l’arrivée du nouveau millénaire, Sergey Akopov entame une recherche de nouvelles formes picturales, lui permettant d’interpréter des sujets humains et universels. Dans sa peinture figurative, empreinte d’inspirations médiévales, l’artiste joue avec la multiplicité de repères et de fantasmes et nous emporte dans un univers ouvert aux métamorphoses. Les personnages de ses toiles sont animés par des quêtes profondes, à mi-chemin entre rêverie et abstraction.
