Sergey Akopov was born in 1956 in Tbilisi. In 1983 he graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts. He is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia and the International Association of Arts at UNESCO since 1998. Since 2023, he has been living and working in France. His works can be found in private collections across Europe, the United States, Canada and China.
Known in the 2000s as a master of still life, Sergey gradually moved towards figurative painting, allowing him to express his attitude towards human and universal subjects. He creates series of symbolist works, imprinted with medieval inspirations, such as Simple Meanings, or Bird Catchers, where the characters are driven by deep quests, halfway between reverie and abstraction.
